Mode:|Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2 Review|
Finishing eps. 13-25 in one day would probably be the concrete evidence of how this anime awaken me from my tired senses (courtesy of the 1st semester).
Code Geass R2 is the sequel of the 1st Code Geass (duh). The first CG didn't make a very big impact on me except that Lelouch is really handsome. The ending didn't make me feel anything exciting except the fact that it left me several questions for a mean time. Me, watching R2 is probably the counterattck of CG to me. It is the best anime for me as of now and it's being-the-best are already posted on the top best rated animes in animenewsnetwork. I asked myself why I chose to watch R2 first before the animes that I really haven't and at the same time need to watch. First, it's because my God, Stay, cosplayed 2 characters with awesome costumes coming from the same anime. It's rare to see her cosplay more than one character coming from the same anime. Second, seeing the new songs of R2 in Gendou and the bands that sung it made me think that CG is already a big thing I shouldn't miss. And my money wasn't wasted, it's the best thing that pulled me up from boredom of waiting for updates of any mangas and animes I like.
*Review: *WITH SPOILERS*
CG explored more areas of the world and also went deeper into the people and organizations that must not be left out, it was a great thing that the story doesn't revolve only to the old characters but to the new characters who are REALLY able to steal the spotlight away from them.
The Knights of Rounds, just like how Akatsuki and Espada had existed, they are the strong group of soldiers to par with the Order of the Black Knights. Each of them is not bad in nature except from my natural opinion of Suzaku(at first) as the friend you should never friend with. Knowing that he sold Lelouch to the emperor for the position really made the iota of my blood reach a high point. Among the knights, my favorite is Anya. Pink hair never left animes. Anya is a girl quite similar to CC but a bit more playful, honest, cold and pretty. She's another character I admired for my whole life.
Several characters were added wherein another favorite of mine, Li Xing-ke, is a very big star. Also with Prince Schneizel who probably is the only genius that can defeat his brother, Lelouch (but still lost at the end) Rolo, the fake sibling of Lelouch...I really pitied him at the beginning and he's another character that made me tear when he died as a hero. Shirley died which is really tragic for probably, most of the people thought that she's a major girl that might be together with Lelouch at the end. What scared me the most is the part when CC lost her memories. My breathe was on hold for about 2-3 episodes and I'm happy that the real CC was just hiding.
The ending is the most tragic event in my life. Lelouch obviously became the demon and my opinion as a girl, he was hotter by that time when he became emperor. After the Ragnarok Junction, it was a good thing that Lelouch and Suzaku were a team again. Lelouch is really smart and handsome, that's all I can say before the war when he bacame tyrant and abused his Geass. The scene with Nunnally and Lelouch was probably the most dramatic of all(at least I know at some parts that Lelouch was putting up a mask). Most of the characters gave a good description of the death of Lelouch (i.e. Suzaku, C.C and Nunnaly). It rare to see characters like them to grieve.
I thought he pushed through with being evil and I didn't even smell the new plan he had since the Ragnarok Junction. Everything he did was a surprise and my approval of him undeniably got weaker just until the last part. "Everyone in the world hated me as planned", that's being unfair especially if I'm Nunnally. In some point, what he did would be the "correct choice" for a person who had sacrificed many lives and at the end, finding out that his own fight is meaningless T^T. There may be some way to resolve the situation but it was amazing of Lulu to actually repent for his sins and at the same time, leave with the thought of changing the future of the world through his death. It's the super unexpected, disappointing yet the best ending an anime ever had TT^TT
Opinions say that R2 is more of drama, I 50% agree with that because most of the character's stories and feelings were more shown. I think the mecca-ness and drama is just balanced. The fightings, I will not forget how it hurt my head seeing Lulu's sage stretegies. The drama really was shown at the end, until now, seeing the face of Lelouch and hearing the song Continued Story shatters me. I can't believe a handsome face like Lelouch's would suffer a tragic and dramatic death by his own will. R2 is much better than the first season. Knowing that the first season is the introduction and there are several cliff hangers that made me finish it, the drama and the feelings that the characters are truly showing were not felt by the audience. I support R2 more ^^
My review shall end with some pictures. Sorry for posting informal fangirlization of CG. Code Geass is the first anime I could reply to to the people who'll ask me "What's a good anime to watch?" ^^
I can't believe this face could be so evil and yet he suffered the pain more than anyone does
My new goddess, Knight of Six, Anya Earlstein
Lelouch's only rival in everything (hotness and intelligence), Schneizel Britannia
Stay's awesome cosplay of Schneizel
Lelouch's slide of death
